Professional Guitar Tuition

About me

I first started playing the guitar while still at school, saving my pocket money and occasionally my dinner money!!! Eventually saving enough to buy my first electric guitar from the local music shop. I then pestered a friend who already played to show me some chords and a few basic tunes. This started my long journey and love affair with the guitar.

After playing (at times not very well) for a few years, which included a few lessons with local guitar teachers in Electric Acoustic and Classical guitar I became frustrated with my lack of progress and hungry to learn more. So in 1992 I auditioned and was accepted on a full time guitar course with the world renown London Guitar Institute West London.

The London Guitar Institute

It was the first full time guitar course ever to be held in the UK at the time. Although extremely hard and intensive it highlighted the most important areas I should be working on and at the same time answered a lot of questions. I was also lucky to have had some of the best guitarists in the world as tutors such as Alan -( Guitarist magazine ,Mike Oldfield ,Joan Armatrading). Iain Scott -( Guitar Techniques magazine). Shaun Baxter - (Guitar Techniques magazine). Dave Kilminster -( Guitarist of the year,Roger Waters band) to name but a few, as well as many seminars with famous players such as Steve Howe (YES) and Albert Lee.

Finally graduating and culminating with an end performance exam in font of a panel of judges which included none other than Hank Marvin of the Shadows fame....daunting to say the least.

Teaching

It was during this course that I found I enjoyed teaching others, helping some fellow students who were struggling with some techniques and theory that I had studied before starting the course. Shortly after returning home from London I found myself in demand for guitar lessons from various friends, so it was a natural progression into Guitar teaching and so I began a career as a professional guitar tutor and have never looked back, helping hundreds of students young and old.

I always have great satisfaction meeting people for the first time who are unsure they will ever learn the guitar and seeing them eventually achieve their goals, the smile on their faces is why I love this job. I became a member of The Registry of Guitar Tutors and gained a Diploma in electric guitar teaching (level 4 highest) with the prestigious London College of Music.

I also taught guitar at Oswestry college for a number of years. I am also proud to be part of a small team of specialist guitar tutors employed to teach guitar in many schools in and around Telford. Now with over thirty years playing experience and over twenty years full time guitar teaching experience I will help you achieve your goals whether a complete beginner or more experienced but frustrated with your progress.

When I am not teaching I also enjoy playing live gigs especially playing classical guitar at weddings.
